With so many grades of stainless steel available to purchase that can now be used to create stainless steel earrings, one may wonder, can hypoallergenic earrings be made from ferritic stainless steel?
What is ferritic stainless steel?
Ferritic stainless steel is well known for its resistance to corrosion and is traditionally used in kitchenware appliances and other industrial equipment. With a high chromium content of between 10.5% to 27%, ferritic stainless steel is highly resistant to rust, however its properties often make this type of magnetic stainless steel unsuitable for stainless steel earrings or any other type of stainless steel jewellery. If ferritic stainless steel was ever used to create stainless steel earrings, any earrings produced from this grade of stainless steel could not be described as hypoallergenic earrings, and neither would they be suitable for those who suffer from sensitive ears and skin irritation.
What type of stainless steel are Fire Steel hypoallergenic earrings made from?
Fire Steel stainless steel hypoallergenic earrings are made from (316L) austenitic stainless steel. 316L is a high grade stainless steel variant that is suitable for jewellery manufacturing.
As explained previously, ferritic stainless steel (430 or 434 stainless steel quality) is more likely to crack when cutting hence another reason why manufacturing stainless steel earrings with this type of metal, especially when creating highly complex, intricate designs of stainless steel earrings metal is problematic. For this reason the Fire Steel hypoallergenic earrings range uses 316L stainless steel.
The Fire Steel hypoallergenic earrings collection are delivered in an elegant black leatherette designer jewellery box.
